Excellence in Care Awards

2022

Despite a difficult year for many we were still inundated with nominations for our awards. As ever it was a difficult process to pick winners but here they are:

2022 Winners and Shortlisted

Excellence in Care Award - Registered Manager

Winner:

Balvar Bisla - Angel Care Homes

"Bal has been a fantastic Manager she has let her staff grow and develop in roles  with full support and advice. Bal has been so supportive through covid both as a Manager and personally with all staff that have had struggles , when she herself has been struggling."

Shortlisted:

Aeon Anderson - ACCI

“Aeon Anderson is a wonderful manager, always as time for a chat with staff and residents, he is always there with a kind word or two, always incurring staff to push themselves to the limits and he has been a great help to me with my new job as a support worker, so that way i think he deserved to be manager of the year.”


Malik Khan - Midland Care (UK) Ltd

"I have been working with Malik and midland care as their trainer for a number of years, he always impresses me on the standards he leads his team by. Malik’s leading by example has embedded this into the team. I have seen Malik show compassion with everything he does"

Excellence in Care Award - Carer

Winner:

Tracy Glasby - Kiniths House

"Tracy started with our company during the pandemic, I can hand on my heart in all the years I have been doing this job ( and tha’s a long time since 1999) I have NEVER met such a genuine true well fitted care assistant, she always dreamed of a career in care but put this off until now and we are so genuinely grateful she chose our company to join."

Shortlisted:

Jennie Morris - Rushall Care Home

"Jennie is such a hard worker and always willing to jump in with all departments. She is many of the residents favourite face and is well loved in our community. She joins in activities and will often run some herself when the opportunity arises. Families absolutely adore her and will often speak to her as a source of comfort and support with the challenges of loving someone with a long term condition. "


Excellence in Care Award - Deputy Manager/Senior/Team Leader

Winner:

Baljinder Nijjer - Goldthorn Lodge

"Bali has been instrumental to the home’s success, taking a lead role in delivering high quality care to the residents but also extending the same care to the residents families and as a mentor to the other staff members. There is no problem that can’t be solved when Bali is here, the energy and compassion Bali admits helps  the positive culture and environment the home is so well known for. "

Shortlisted:

Sharon Higgins - Churchfield Court

"Sharon goes above and beyond in all that she does and supports both the staff team and service users. Nothing is too much trouble from assisting staff to get to work to bringing in service users shopping they have requested (all of which is more often than not done in her own time.) Sharon is a breathe of fresh air to Churchfield Court and is always on shift with a smile on her face even when times have been tough and she may have been struggling herself."



Suzanne Henderson-Clark - Kiniths House

"I am nominating Suzanne for this award because she is not only the Deputy Manager but she is also a one in a million care worker, she does everything and more to provide the best care for the service users of Kiniths House, I have met each of the service users and they always talk to me about Suzanne and how she is an amazing care worker and deputy manager to the home. They all love her. "



Excellence in Care Award - Newcomer

Winner:

Kirsty Leadbeater - Rushall Care Home

"Kirsty has not been here for very long but she has already been such a positive influence within the home. She has got to know residents and their families, brings her Labrador Charlie into work with her for the residents to have a home dog during the day. Staff have taken to her straight away. Kirsty has thrown herself into the deep end of life at Rushall and isn’t  just doing the job, she is thriving and becoming a major part of life here."

Excellence in Care Award - Other Support Staff

Winner:

Steve Dawe - Superior Care (Midlands) Ltd

"He is massively committed to the Home and its residents.  As well as his full time maintenance role Steve attends to the gardens and can be seen in at the weekends just so that our residents are able to take full advantage of the lovely gardens that the Home has along with the fishpond that our residents enjoy.  Steve has a real passion and warmth in the role that he does which is something to be celebrated.  We are truly fortunate to have Steve as part of our Court House family."

Excellence in Care Award - Other Management

Winner:

Kate Higgins - Midway Care Group

"Kate is passionate about supporting Locality Managers and their teams to get things right for the people that live in our services. She understands their needs well and is innovative in getting them involved in the monitoring of quality systems to ensure they are getting the right outcomes"

Shortlisted:

Sarah Soley - Superior Care (Midlands) Ltd

“Sarah was instrumental in co-ordinating the changes that needed to be made very quickly to ensure a smooth transition.  Sarah without any real experience quickly adjusted to working with a small provider and all that entails.  She unknowingly became the sole person in the accounts department, human resources and marketing department.  She has approached the role(s) with massive enthusiasm and never once complained about the long hours that were needed. "


Raman Khaira - Goldthorn Lodge

"Raman has been the rock of the care home since I stated here last year. Raman goes the extra mile fighting the corner of our residents ensuring that the right treatment is sourced for them and never giving up. Through Raman passion and persistency she has extended the lives of a few of our residents and rightfully received many compliments from the residents families in doing so. "


Excellence in Care Award - Best Overall Team

Winner:

Awarding Care Ltd

"Amanda Beard and Sonia Bluck are always teamed up delivering care and support to Service Users in our Sandwell area.  They have both been part of the team for nearly 6 years now and have always shown tremendous commitment to the role and with the care and support they give to all their Service Users.  In the last 12 months, they have both attended to 3 incidents and have saved the life of 2 Service Users by administering first aid and CPR during their visits"

Midlands Care (UK) Ltd

"Midland Care (UK) Ltd care staff team has delivered an excellent care to all our service users over the past difficult 2 years throughout the COVID-19 period.  Each and every one at Midland Care (UK) Ltd went an extra mile to ensure that all our service users are safe and happy and healthy while their loved ones are not able to visit them and provide the support what in normal days they use to provide. "


Clover Care Services

"I would like to nominate my staff team of 8 carers that support the adults with learning disabilities to achieve their goals on a everyday basis. i think they are amazing and need recognition for their hard work and achievements. They always come to work wearing a smile which in the last two years of working in uncertain times is fabulous."

Excellence in Care Award - Outstanding Contribution to Care

Winner:

Debbie Le Quesne


The Outstanding Contribution to care award is in the gift of the Association


It is normally awarded to an individual who has made a real difference to care within the West Midlands 


This year we have decided to award it to our former Chief Exec Debbie Le Quesne who has been a tireless champion for Adult Social Care and continues to be involved in the sector even in her retirement

Keiron Broadbent, Chief Executive Officer of the West Midlands Care Association said: ‘It has been our pleasure to continue with this awards scheme to celebrate and promote excellence within the care industry across the region particularly during a very trying time.


In this our fifth awards year we were staggered at the response - despite a very challenging year for everyone - it has been an extremely difficult process to pick winners.  We would like to congratulate the finalists and extend our thanks to everyone who entered"
